[//This is not a fully-expansive guide. It focuses on the Portland, Oregon area and personal research is encouraged if you do not find applicable help.//
This guide was produced in May of 2021. Last updated as of: June 2021.]There are two types of adoption available to birth-families in the Portland area. There are open adoptions or state adoptions.
State adoptions are closed, where there is no contact or information shared between the birth family and child until the child is 18. Then, the child can petition the court for legal information.
More common is the open adoption, where there is a legal contract between birth parent(s) and adoptive parent(s) for visits, communication, letters, pictures, etc. and an expectation of an ongoing developing relationship between the child and birth family.
In open or closed adoption, legal representation and counseling is provided at no cost to the birth parent.[[Planned Parenthood]]: Provides reproductive healthcare and early abortion services in Portland and throughout the state of Oregon. Clinics can be found nationwide, and it is recommended to search based on your personal location through [[this page.]]
[[OHSU Center for Women's Health]]: Medical and surgical abortion procedures are offered in the women's center and performed by OHSU trained physicians. High-risk cases and medically fragile patients are often referred to OHSU because of the hospital-level of care that they provide, that most other providers can offer.
[[LoveJoy Surgicenter, now known as Lilith Clinc]]: With a history of serving people for half a century, Lilith Clinic has one of the most influential histories in reproductive support here in Oregon. Until recently, it was known as LoveJoy Surgicenter, one of the longest-standing family-owned abortion clinics in the country. They offer medical and surgical abortions, 5-22 weeks, with or without general anesthesia in the privacy of a physician's office setting.
(align:"=><=")+(box:"X")[''This is not an exhaustive list. Please conduct your own research if further options are needed.''][[Northwest Abortion Access Fund]]: An abortion fund that reaches across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. They supply funding directly to the clinic for the requesting patient, and include a free hotline for support.
The CAIR Project: An abortion fund through [[Washington NARAL]], primarily funded by private donors. Funds are accessed through the hotline that the clinics will call on behalf of the patient, once an ultrasound has been completed.
[[WRRAP]]: Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project that aims to assist women who do not have access to safe, legal, or emergency procedures and contraceptive.
The Spring Adams Fund: Through [[Oregon NARAL]], private donors set up this fund that covers travel and hotel expenses for women who travel to Oregon for abortion services. This fund was named after a woman named Spring Adams who was killed by her father the day she was planning to travel to Oregon from Idaho, to have her abortion. In her name, clinics make an effort to protect women who need services they cannot access from their own home states.
[[Oregon Health Plan]]: Most Oregon clinics will do a pregnancy test, and if positive, will offer a form for people to apply for the OregonHealth Plan which can cover the abortion procedure. DSHS
(align:"=><=")+(box:"X")[''This is not an exhaustive list. Please conduct your own research if further options are needed.''][[NNAF]]: Founded in the early 2000s, funded by private donations, and is a national network of multiple abortion funds that can help abortion procedures and travel for women all over the country. NARAL also organizes and lobbies people all over Oregon to vote and be politically-active citizens. To [[donate]], follow the included link.
(align:"=><=")+(box:"X")[''This is not an exhaustive list. It is free to most young women and can help substantially if someone is choosing to parent.
[[SARC]]: The Sexual Assault Resource Center includes a 24 hour support line, counseling services, as well as case management to support people who have experienced sexual violence.

[[Adoption Information]]
[[Adoption Organizations]]Termination of pregnancy, or abortion services, are available in the Portland area from 5-22 weeks gestation. Safe quality care is prioritized by all providers in an effort to achieve excellence in women's (and AFAB) healthcare. Abortion providers supply additional resources for support and care. It's estimated that 1 out of 3 women will need abortion services in their lives, so funding, education, and resources are critical for healthy AFAB lives and their families. Portland has a history of being staunchly pro-choice, due in part to the efforts of Allene Klass and the continued work of her family in starting the first local abortion provider, LoveJoy Surgicenter.

Founded in 1996, Keshet is a root of many LGBTQA+ Jewish experiences through leadership and teaching, encouraging growth within the community as we head into the future. American Jewish life was not historically as open to non-cishetero experiences as can be seen today, much like other people groups. Today, however, there are LGBTQA+ synagogues and rabbis, encouraging collective generations to take care of one another and work on understanding who people are.

This is a field that is lacking and needs more reputable and pro-choice organizations. Many clinics offer counseling as well, but other options are still important for the health and awareness of the public. Many providers conduct a lot of phone counseling, and some also offer free sessions for people to come in and discuss their options in-person. (Note that this may be suspended until pandemic restrictions lift.)
Avoid groups like Pregnancy Resource Centers, as they've been investigated by Oregon for releasing false information. Be cautious and if in doubt, seek help from one of the clinics listed under Abortion Info and Services.(open-url:"https://www.all-options.org/")
